Mark Your Calendars and Support Project MEGSSS This March!

It’s time to circle March 14 on your calendars! Our next Giveback Tuesday event is being held on Pi Day in celebration of pi and pizza pie. It’ll be at our Rock Hill location, and you won’t want to miss it! The profits will be donated to Project MEGSSS; its acronym stands for Mathematics for Education for Gifted Secondary School Students. This nonprofit organization inspires students in 3rd through 8th grade to think differently about mathematics and see how capable they are in the field of STEM.

Each month, we’re proud to feature a local nonprofit charity and donate 100% of the earned proceeds from the entire day to the organization. Lunch, dinner, drinks, and carryout are all included. So far, Katie’s Pizza & Pasta Osteria has donated $351,160 to nonprofit organizations here in St. Louis.

Funds raised from Giveback Tuesday will be used to expand the mathematic learning opportunities they provide in-person and online. Project MEGSSS adopted an online teaching method and used Zoom to continuously support its students in 2020. The nonprofit has returned to in-person teaching with online learning as an alternative, which is helpful for those unable to arrange transportation to the classroom.

Their Elements program, which is highly competitive and selective, uses the Elements of Mathematics (EM) curriculum specifically developed for gifted middle-school students by an international team of mathematicians and educators. The program begins with an introductory symbolic logic course and then develops from the basics of computer programming into mathematical proof.

MathJam, a weeklong summer program, blends mathematics with arts, puzzles, music, and more to give students a connection between mathematics and the real world. This is newly created to develop a love of learning, especially mathematics, in all students.

This year, Project MEGSSS is extending its reach to underserved public school districts and parochial schools. Founded in 1980, this nonprofit organization gives high-performing students a place to gather and learn, helping them to become confident high school and college students.

Be sure to mark your calendars for our Giveback Tuesday event this month! 100% of earned profits will benefit Project MEGSSS and their awesome cause. Please call us at (314) 942-6555 with any questions and visit www.katiespizzaandpasta.com to make a dinner reservation or order curbside pickup. We look forward to seeing you at our Rock Hill location on March 14!
