Come join us this month for our May Giveback Tuesday, which is set for May 30. This month, our Giveback Tuesday event will benefit the Friends of Kathy J. Weinman Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence.
Every month, we are proud to feature a local nonprofit charity and donate 100% of the earned proceeds from the entire day to the charity. Lunch, dinner, drinks, and carryout all go to the designated charity. We started Giveback Tuesday in July 2014 and have reached beyond our milestone of donating over $100,000 to local nonprofit charities!
Funds raised from this Giveback Tuesday event will be used to assist women and children who are temporary residents of the shelter. These funds provide them with many necessary essentials while they are at the shelter, including needed furniture and household items to help them establish a new home.
Established in 1992 by late St. Louis County Executive Buzz Westfall, the Friends of Kathy J. Weinman Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence became the first and only domestic violence shelter in St. Louis County. They assist residents in establishing new lives devoid of violence and fear for themselves and their children. This often means providing shelter, counseling, case management, healthcare services, meals, community outreach, and educational services for these women and their children.
Last year, the shelter served 185 women and 120 children. Overall, they have assisted more than 2,000 abused and battered women and expect to serve nearly 200 women and 140 children this year.
