Pedal the Cause

Come join us this month for our April Giveback Tuesday, which is set for April 25. This month, our Giveback Tuesday event will benefit Pedal the Cause.

Every month, we are proud to feature a local nonprofit charity and donate 100% of the earned proceeds from the entire day to the charity. Lunch, dinner, drinks, and carryout all go to the designated charity. We started Giveback Tuesday in July 2014 and have reached beyond our milestone of donating over $100,000 to local nonprofit charities!

Funds raised from this Giveback Tuesday event will be used to fund groundbreaking cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. “We will be presenting these funds to our beneficiaries on November 16,” said Carrie Sweigart, Chief Operations Officer at Pedal the Cause. “Last year, we donated over $3.8 million for cancer research, and we hope to grow our contribution in 2017.”

Since its inception in 2010, Pedal the Cause has made it their mission to fund research that will ultimately lead to a cure for all cancers. In total, they have donated $15.8 million to the Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. These donations have funded 84 research projects to tackle and cure cancer.

“In the face of diminished federal funding where support typically gets funneled to already-proven concepts, many potentially new ideas are not deemed eligible,” Sweigart continued. “Pedal the Cause donations ‘seed’ best-in-breed ideas to allow the cultivation of proof of concept and critical data. These projects often turn into groundbreaking results that lead to new treatments and cures, preventions, and early detection diagnoses.

As Dr. Ryan Fields, Surgical Oncologist and pedal-funded researcher at Washington University School of Medicine, said, “Pedal the Cause is hope, not just for patients and their families, but for physicians and scientists working to battle cancer as well.”

Please join us in donating to Pedal the Cause. The more you order, the more money we can raise! Remember: 100% of the profits from every purchase, dine-in and carryout, from open to close will be donated!

Joe's PlaceCome join us this month for our March Giveback Tuesday, which is set for March 28. This month, our Giveback Tuesday event will benefit Joe’s Place.

Funds raised from this Giveback Tuesday event will be used to help Joe’s Place tackle some much-needed projects and improvements around the facility, including a new shed.

Established in 2006, Joe’s Place offers homeless teenage boys in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District a caring home environment that supports them in graduating from high school and creating positive futures. The organization places an emphasis on college and career readiness, as well as emotional, social, and academic success.

“Each year, close to a dozen of these students find themselves virtually without a home due to serious family difficulties,” said Heath Moylan, President of Joe’s Place. “That’s why we are committed to providing teenage boys at risk for homelessness a supportive home environment that encourages their pursuit of education and enriched lives. We want to offer these boys what every kid should be able to expect from life – a warm place to sleep, regular meals, and someone to provide guidance and attention.”

Since welcoming its first residents in 2007, Joe’s Place has served 25 boys with all but one successfully completing high school or on track to do so.

“We host up to four residents at once, plus we provide ongoing support for many of the boys who have participated in our program,” Moylan said. “We have seen the average grade point averages for each of these boys improve by 1.25 points, and their daily attendance has also improved by 12%.”

Please join us in donating to Joe’s Place. The more you order, the more money we can raise! Remember: 100% of the profits from every purchase, dine-in, and carryout from open to close will be donated!

Ready Readers

Come join us this month for our January Giveback Tuesday, which is set for January 24. This month, our Giveback Tuesday event will benefit Ready Readers.

Every month, we are proud to feature a local nonprofit charity and donate 100% of the earned proceeds from the entire day to the charity. Lunch, dinner, drinks, and carry-out all go to the designated charity. We started Giveback Tuesday in July 2014 and have since reached our milestone of donating over $100,000 to local nonprofit charities!

Funds raised from this Giveback Tuesday event will be used to help Ready Readers purchase new, high-quality children’s books to give to preschool-age children from low-income communities in the St. Louis area. Ready Readers is aiming to donate more than 70,000 children’s books this year.

Every 4-6 weeks, the organization’s 495 volunteers give every child and their teacher in the program a new, personalized children’s book. These books are read aloud weekly to 10,000 preschool-age children ages two to five, who come from low-income communities in the city. Ready Readers also provides books, curricula, and professional development for 1,200 early educators.

Ready Readers was created in 1997 by Pat Simons and three other St. Louis citizens as a way to prevent issues of illiteracy. The organization, which will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, trains, places, and supports nearly 500 volunteers in the St. Louis community who read aloud to young children, introduce an early love of reading to the children, and forge a strong bond with the children, teachers, and the community at large.

Also, Ready Readers provides professional development for early educators, free literacy-based fieldtrips, and Book-A-Day, a new program that helps teachers read to children on a daily basis.

Please join us in donating to Ready Readers. The more you order, the more money we can raise! Remember: 100% of the profits from every purchase, dine-in, and carry-out from open to close will be donated!

The Haven of Grace

Come join us this month for our February Giveback Tuesday, which is set for February 28. This month, our Giveback Tuesday event will benefit The Haven of Grace.

Every month, we are proud to feature a local nonprofit charity and donate 100% of the earned proceeds from the entire day to the charity. Lunch, dinner, drinks, and carry-out all go to the designated charity. We started Giveback Tuesday in July 2014 and have reached beyond our milestone of donating over $100,000 to local nonprofit charities!

Funds raised from this Giveback Tuesday event will be used to help The Haven of Grace support their core programs, which provide safe and healthy housing for homeless, pregnant women and their children. Their residential programs house women and children for up to 3 years and include case management and on-site therapy.

Founded in 1988, The Haven of Grace is located in Old North St. Louis and works with each woman to create and meet personal goals in the areas of parenting, health, education, employment, and finance. Additionally, the nonprofit organization’s Ten-Year Aftercare program provides a safety net of support to the women they’ve helped for up to a decade after they graduate from the residential programs.

The Haven of Grace can house 17 women and their children in their residential programs. Currently, the organization is caring for 45 women and 115 children in their aftercare program.

“If our families successfully complete all of our programs, we will be connected to them for up to 13 years,” said Kate Tichelkamp, Development Manager at The Haven of Grace. “This means that we get to see babies who were born here in the shelter reach adolescence. Most of our women come from generational poverty, and we can help break that legacy before it’s passed onto their children.”

Please join us in donating to The Haven of Grace. The more you order, the more money we can raise! Remember: 100% of the profits from every purchase, dine-in, and carry-out from open to close will be donated!

Habitat for Humanity St. Louis

Come join us this month for our December Giveback Tuesday, which is set for December 13. This month, our Giveback Tuesday event will benefit Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis.

Every month, we are proud to feature a local nonprofit charity and donate 100% of the earned proceeds from the entire day to the charity. Lunch, dinner, drinks, and carry-out all go to the designated charity. We started Giveback Tuesday in July 2014 and have since donated over $90,000 for local non-profit charities. We are very close to reaching our $100,000 goal, and this event could put us over our goal!

In addition, Home Buy Design, a local company that is a strong believer in the work of Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis, will be matching the amount that we will raise during the Giveback Tuesday event.

Funds raised from this Giveback Tuesday event will be used for Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis’ mission support, which directly supports the building of homes for local families. The funds will be used to purchase building supplies and tools, secure permits and inspections, provide direct support to families applying to the program, and more.

Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis has been operating in St. Louis City and County since 1986. The organization has built and rehabbed almost 400 affordable, efficient homes throughout St. Louis City and County, which provide a safe and permanent home for more than 1,500 individuals. Families qualify for the program based on their income, their need, and their willingness to partner with the organization. Each year, the organization builds between 20 and 25 homes, counsels hundreds of people on their qualifications for the program, provides resources and support for dozens of past Habitat homeowners, and hosts more than 5,000 community volunteers on their worksites and in their ReStores.

Please join us in donating to Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis. The more you order, the more money we can raise! Remember: 100% of the profits from every purchase, dine-in, and carry-out from open to close will be donated!
